"Tea, yeah.  You know what I'd practically kill for about now, Rad?"

"What?"

"A bag of maple sugar."

"What's that?"

"It's a granulated sweetener made from the liquid in trees in the middle of winter.  Once a long long time ago I had some real sugar.  Oh, let me tell you, it was an experience."

"Why's that?"

"Oh Rad, my man, you don't know what you're missing.  I think the greatest thing we've lost since the coming of the rifts is sugar.  It can't grow up here."

"You don't want to mention those four words again especially if Chris around."

"What four words?"

"Coming of the rifts."

"Oh right.  He has that bug up his ass about Erin Tarn.  Who is she to claim that the world hasn't always been like this, that magic wasn't always here and the ley lines and the rifts?  That's the one thing I don't like about his type.  They refuse to believe the things put right in front of them.  I can't read any of her books but I know that she's seen other books, old books and that they didn't have ley lines blazing across the country back before the disaster."

"Well starting by not believing there even was a disaster sort of makes it hard for Chris and the others to accept any of the rest of it.  Personally I don't know
